Three practical strategies that can be implemented to boost physician engagement are presented this week on our Healthcare Experience Matters Podcast.
We encourage you to make time for today’s episode with Dr. George Mayzell and Brooke Billingsley if physician engagement is a priority in your organization. This short podcast (less than 30 minutes long) could make a major difference in your strategic planning as we head into 2023.
Our Healthcare Experience Foundation coaching team, led by Dr. Mayzell and Brooke, share the results of our work at over 100 healthcare organizations to advance physician and provider engagement in this podcast.
We also share research on the most impactful strategies to restore resilience, compassionate practice, and loyalty. Our goal by the conclusion of this podcast is to have three practical strategies for you to take back to your organization.
The Three Strategies
Here are the three strategies as outlined in today’s podcast:
- Make Sure Values are Aligned. (This leads to the right culture with teamwork and collaboration.)
- Solicit Input and Use Active Listening Skills. (This builds trust and solidifies strong relationships.)
- Invest in Leadership Development. (Clinical leaders will be able to balance the economics and clinical outcomes.)
Fighting Burnout
Since burnout and physician engagement are linked so tightly, it is nearly impossible to have a conversation about one topic without mentioning the other. With that in mind, a lot of today’s conversation with Dr. Mayzell and Brooke surrounds burnout.
“If you’re engaged, the burnout goes way down. If you’re burned out, the engagement goes way down, so even though they’re not directly linked, they’re very indirectly linked with a lot of the same factors contributing inversely to each other,” said Dr. Mayzell.
Understanding burnout can be tricky, as noted by Dr. Mayzell.
“Burnout is defined differently by different people and there is no real set guidelines for determining it. It is on a continuum and it fluctuates each day,” he said.
