This week, we’re gearing up for a November full of Leadership Certificate Program opportunities from the Healthcare Experience Foundation (HXF) by featuring this “best-of leadership” episode on the Healthcare Experience Matters Podcast.

This episode features snippets from previous podcast guests that quickly dive right into the essence of what defines effective healthcare leadership in these rapidly changing times, with 2025 right here on the horizon.

Click below for more information on attending one of these virtually-held leadership certificate programs, and hopefully, we will see you there in November:

How to Best Lead with Authenticity in Healthcare

First up, we hear from Carla Parker Hollis about leading with authenticity. Carla is the Chief Operating Officer of Jersey City Medical Center at RWJBarnabas Health, and she is interviewed by Kathleen Lynam, RN, MPA, an Executive Coach with HXF.

Both Kathleen and Carla are active contributors to our certificate programs, often dedicated to serving emerging leaders and promoting teamwork that thrives in healthcare.

If you are interested in hearing the full-length version of this conversation, which dives deeper into the importance of remaining authentic to yourself as a healthcare leader, you can access it here.

Emotional Intelligence to Promote Inclusive Healthcare Leadership

Next we hear from Kathy Boswell. Kathy is a Coach and National Speaker with HXF. She explores the four dimensions and competencies of emotional intelligence and how they can help promote stronger, more inclusive healthcare leadership.

Kathy’s insights on the roles of self-awareness, self-management, social competence, and relationship management as vital keys in building the cultures that will best care for patients are at the heart of this chat.

You can access the original full-length podcast, titled “Emotional Intelligence to Promote Inclusive Healthcare Leadership” with Kathy.

Overcoming the Inherent Challenges of Physician Leadership

Rounding out today’s episode is our friend Dr. Rob Minkes, a Physician Coach with HXF. He is also a board-certified general and pediatric surgeon who practiced as a pediatric surgeon for over twenty years in academic and private practice settings.

For all that they accomplish and contribute to society, whether it’s falling victim to imposter syndrome or something else, physicians and many healthcare practitioners often fail to recognize themselves as leaders.

In the clip pulled from his interview, “Overcoming the Inherent Challenges of Physician Leadership,” he breaks down the reasons why physicians tend to deal with these issues and how they can overcome the challenges of recognizing themselves as leaders. He is interviewed by Casey Callanan, the HXF Podcast Director

You can access the entire original interview with Dr. Minkes here.
